Pre-Selling - How To Use Pre-selling Effectively In Network Marketing
Pre-selling is a concept foreign to the average network marketer. It has been for a long time and despite the efforts of experts like Ann Sieg and Ken Evoy in educating the MLM crowd about the power and effective use of pre-selling, the majority completely miss the mark.
Here's an example. When was the last time you were approached about a network marketing business opportunity. Did it go along the lines of...
"Our company is great. We have the greatest pay plan and the products...well, they will completely change your life. You have to join this business because if you don't, then you will get left behind blah, blah, blah..."
That's ugly isn't it. What would your reaction be? Can you spot any effective pre-selling in that garbage?
What Is Pre-selling?
So what do we mean by pre-selling. I think Ann Sieg said it best recently when she described it like this:
"The frame in which someone views a message has more of an impact on their decision than the message itself."
In other words, she's saying it doesn't matter how good or how strong your sales pitch is, it's what takes place leading up to it which will determine whether your prospect makes the decision to join you in business.
Can you see how powerful this can be? Instead of grabbing your prospect by the scruff of the neck and blaring out to them..."me, me, me" you've got to show them that you are someone that they can place some faith in to get them what they want and where they want to be.
You are not going to impress them by hitting them with a sales pitch the very first time you make contact. When you do that, it's suddenly not about them anymore but it's about you.
When a prospect comes into your prospect funnel the pre-selling should start immediately. This is not the time to talk about your company or products. It's not even time to talk about you.
It's the time when you start to educate and train them. You need to be informing them and more importantly, you need to be giving them as much value as you possibly can.
You see, you are on trial here as a mentor. It's you they'll eventually join not the company. The company is secondary.
If they see you as someone made of the right stuff, that is, someone who can propel them forward in their quest for greater financial stability then you won't even need to produce a sales pitch. That's how powerful pre-selling done right can be.
